Air LOT will help valley economy

As a longtime resident of Sun Valley and an owner of a business that is active throughout Blaine County, I have watched Sun Valley grow over the years into the fabulous community that it is today.   We have tremendous world-class amenities and year-round activities that most people from elsewhere in the United States can only dream of.

I participated in this evolution and feel fortunate to have done so, but I have also watched the impact of the recent economic downturn on our economy and strongly feel that we need to do something about it.

The opportunity for us to vote in favor of the incremental 1 percent local-option tax ballot measure on Nov. 6 is that something.  We need to maintain our existing commercial air service at Friedman Memorial Airport and expand it if we possibly can.

That is what the incremental LOT will do and we will all benefit from the results of additional funding dedicated to this purpose.  Everyone knows that more flights will hugely improve our tourist economy and lots of data exists to prove that, but please do not forget that more flights to and from different areas will also improve our second-home economy. That component of our overall financial picture supports our construction trades, retailers and restaurant owners in addition to many other businesses, as well as having a very important positive impact on philanthropy for our community.

I also know that increased flights will work in favor of a real estate recovery because new buyers look for convenient access as one of their main criteria in deciding where to locate.

Please join me in voting in favor of the 1 percent local-option tax measure on your ballot on Nov. 6.
