A 45-year-old Hailey man has been charged with reckless driving following a head-on collision early Sunday evening on state Highway 75 in Hailey.

Hailey police Lt. Steve England said the citation issued to William D. Weller alleges that his actions caused the collision that led to a transport of both him and another driver, Linda K. Love, 63, of Bellevue, to St. Luke’s Wood River.

England said neither accident victim sustained life-threatening injuries. Their conditions were not available from St. Luke’s by press deadline Tuesday.

The accident occurred shortly before 7 p. m. on the highway just south of the Friedman Memorial Airport tower. England said Weller was southbound in a 1987 Plymouth Colt that collided head-on with Love’s northbound 1996 small Chevrolet pickup.

England said investigation showed that Weller lost control of his car when a vehicle in front of him slowed down.

“Once [Weller] slowed down, he lost control of his vehicle and went into the northbound lane,” England said

He said investigation further showed that prior to the collision, Weller was driving recklessly, perhaps in a “road rage” incident with the vehicle that slowed down in front of him.

Both Weller and Love were transported to St. Luke’s by Wood River Fire & Rescue ambulance.
