Open house set to discuss transit hub

Mountain Rides wants to hear from public on potential sites

Mountain Rides Transportation Authority and the city of Ketchum are inviting the public to another open house regarding a proposed transportation hub in downtown Ketchum.

The open house, the third in a series of four, is set for Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Ketchum City Hall. Two sessions will be held, the first from noon to 1:30 p.m. and the second from 5-6:30 p.m.

Mountain Rides reported in a news release that a total of more than 180 community members attended the first two open houses held earlier this year.

“The third open house aims to walk people through the site selection process and allow them to provide feedback on the six potential sites that have been identified,” the news release states.

Establishment of a transportation hub has been in the planning stages for about a year. If built, the hub would provide a central location in Ketchum for bus transfers between the various Mountain Rides route systems. The hub would include parking space for up to six buses. It would also have bike racks, passenger shelters and a small operations and information building.

Mountain Rides states in the press release that the hub would “enable more efficiency in the transportation system.”

“The hub would reduce car traffic in the town core, making it more bike- and pedestrian-friendly,” the release states. “Businesses immediately surrounding the hub are likely to see an increase in business since an average of 300 people a day would be passing through the location.”
