Don’t be fooled by voter ID claim

Misleading information from the Idaho Secretary of State’s Office is being issued to voters. The cover of the “Idaho Votes” pamphlet reads, “Bring Your ID and Vote!” On page 2, it states “Photo ID is now required to vote in Idaho,” but if you take the time to read further, this is patently false.

Voters do not have to present photo ID; they can instead sign a simple Personal Identification Affidavit, and will be issued a ballot that will be deposited with and counted with all the other ballots cast. A website on poll worker training states that a sign saying “ID Required” is to be placed at the entrance to the polling place where all voters can see it before they go in.

Please be informed and do not be intimidated by the misleading information that has been published by our secretary of state. Voters of any persuasion should be offended by this attempt to dissuade people from voting if they do not have a photo ID. 

In addition, voters should take the time to inform themselves before voting on the “Luna laws” in Propositions 1, 2 and 3. A “yes” vote on these initiatives will allow the state to begin to privatize public education, use taxpayer dollars to enrich online education companies instead of keeping our taxes spent locally in our own schools, disrespect our teachers and promote allowing national lobbyists for corporations to write Idaho education law. These 3 Propositions are not about putting students first.
