Vote yes for 1 percent LOT

I am writing to ask voters to support the five-year, 1 percent local-option tax for additional air service.

Retail stores, restaurants, galleries, lodging, events, recreation and their many employees all count on visitor and second-home owner traffic to make ends meet.

The additional monies collected will help support seasonal nonstop flights from Seattle and Los Angeles, with potential to expand them. The new funds will also support new nonstop flights, with target of service from San Francisco in 2013, and two to three other seasonal nonstop major markets by 2017.

More markets and more visitors will bring more business and more vitality into the valley. For years, our competitors have had airline minimum revenue guarantee programs to bring in flights which have been very successful.

This new LOT will allow us to expand our air service access on a much larger scale than we have been able to do to date.

The additional air service is the first part of the solution that will allow businesses a means to cultivate new long-term customers, and in turn create more second home owners, some of whom will eventually live full-time in the valley.

You have heard the story: We came here once to ski, and then we decided to come for the summer, we loved it so much we bought our second home and our family has been coming here now for X number of years.

The Sun Valley area is a very special place; I’ve lived here over 11 years and had a business here for over 10 years. I hope this area is always a part of my life.

Please join me in voting “in favor” of the 1 percent LOT for air service to keep our businesses and our community alive and well.
