HJR 2 is bad for wildlife managers

On Nov. 6, Idahoans will be asked to add an amendment to the Idaho Constitution. Our constitution is such an important document that I hope voters will take the time to learn more about this amendment, and to vote “No” on HJR 2.

HJR 2 is a poorly veiled attempt to guarantee hunting, fishing and trapping “rights” far into the future. Idahoans already have the privilege to fish, hunt and trap subject to regulations set by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. Abiding by these regulations and responsibilities is the duty of all citizens of our state.

HJR 2 also stresses that fishing, hunting and trapping are to be a “preferred means” of management of Idaho wildlife. Only Idaho Fish and Game scientists and officers should determine proper and ethical management methods. HJR 2 would remove their expertise from management decisions.

Please vote “NO” on HJR 2.
