Forensic audit appeals ‘ongoing’ in Sun Valley

Attorneys request more time for clients

Sun Valley Mayor Dewayne Briscoe said Wednesday that he is still in the process of conducting “name-clearing” hearings with city employees mentioned in a forensic audit report commissioned by the city earlier this year.

These hearings, ongoing since early September, give employees mentioned in the audit report the opportunity to appeal directly to Briscoe any allegations made against them. A new personnel policy, in accordance with Idaho law, includes the employees’ right to these hearings, Briscoe said.

Briscoe said the process is still “ongoing” due to a request by several of the mentioned employees’ attorneys to have more time to study the report.

Briscoe said Oct. 2 that the hearings have been “very informative” and that through the process he has learned information that was not mentioned in the audit, but that could prove useful in determining any “absolute resolutions” that he might soon make.

“As mayor, I’m empowered to possibly recommend no action, probationary status of employees, retribution to the city, disciplinary action and/or termination,” he said. “This is just a laundry list of all possible actions I might take, which would be dependent on both the content of the forensic audit and the responses that the people mentioned in the forensic audit and their attorneys have formulated to me in the name-clearing hearings.”

Briscoe commissioned the audit after whistleblowers alleged various wrongdoings at City Hall under the previous administration of Mayor Wayne Willich.
