Get ready for some opera!

Met “Live in HD” gets under way

Met Opera: Live in HD 2012-13 Season gets under way at the Big Wood 4 Cinema in Hailey on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 10 a.m. with hosts from Sun Valley Opera kicking the season off with mimosas and muffins to go with Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore.”
Declared by critics to be one of the greatest comic gems in opera, this new production by Bartlett Sher features Anna Netrebko and Matthew Polenzani as the fickle Adina and her besotted Nemorino. Mariusz Kwiecien is the blustery Sgt. Belcore and Ambrogio Maestri is Dulcamara, the loveable quack and dispenser of the elixir. Maurizio Benini conducts.
“The series is a success story,” said Sun Valley Opera President Frank Meyer. “The Met is adding theater venues around the world each year. Although the live HD productions are high cost, they have proved to be a moneymaker for the MET. It started seven years ago with six productions, and we are in store for 12 shows this year.
“You feel like you are in the orchestra section of the Met with the close-ups and excellent cinematography. Seeing live artists brings another element that can’t be captured on the screen—nevertheless, this is great entertainment for music lovers as ticket sales continue to climb around the world.”
The Met HD sells out weeks in advance in some cities. Tickets are available for $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and $18 for students and can be purchased at the box office at 801 N. Main St. in Hailey. For a complete schedule, visit and look for the Live in HD button.
