Vote no on proposed LOT

I would like to make a statement on Wendy Jaquet’s guest opinion “Support new tax to boost air service” (Sept. 26). I have to say I am not pleased with the article.

She is not looking at this from a whole-systems perspective. Supporting tourism via fossil fuels is not sustainable or resilient. It is not good for our investment and economy long-term, meaning more than a year from now.

How many people are going to be able to afford to fly into Hailey and Sun Valley when gas is $200,000 a barrel? Few and far between.

I refuse to have the Wood River Valley become only a tourist venue for the elite. Our dollars need to be going elsewhere—not to the air. We need to stay on the ground and get this community together and support our local businesses in order to have a prosperous future in the valley.

How many people drive to Twin Falls every week for their Costco haircut and groceries? Do they not realize that is hurting the economy where they live in the valley and that it is actually less cost-effective to be driving back and forth on a weekly basis? Not to mention taking away valuable time.

I urge citizens to rethink this “Yes to Air” plan and look through a different lens. I vote “No to Air.”
