Support LOT for air service

As a banker in the Wood River Valley for more than 20 years, I have worked with hundreds of residents and understand the unique challenges so many of them face operating businesses and living in our valley. In addition, the recession has made those challenges much tougher over the past few years.

Because of these issues, it’s clear to me that we need to take decisive action to help turn our economy around and set the course for future growth and prosperity.

Fortunately, we have a great opportunity in front of us to do that—passage of the 1 percent local-option tax for air service. Improving our air service is key to improving the situation for both tourism and non-tourism-based businesses.

The additional money generated from this incremental LOT will be invested in the expansion of current service and new flights from new markets, bringing us an estimated 24,000 new visitors annually and millions of dollars in economic impact over five years.

That is a large amount of new money circulating throughout our economy, supporting businesses and creating local jobs. In addition, the improved air service will benefit all of the residents in the valley, giving us more options and availability of flights.

If you are a voter in Ketchum, Sun Valley or Hailey, please join me in voting in favor of the 1 percent local-option tax for air service.
