Solve the mystery of “The Last Dance of Dr. Disco”

    The nexStage Theatre’s 2nd Annual Murder Mystery Fundraiser, “The Last Dance of Dr. Disco” stars seven local actors in the audience-participation thriller taking place this Saturday, Oct. 6 at the theater, which will be transformed into “Studio 120” for one special night.
   Veteran actor Jamey Reynolds is joined on stage by Joy Bond, Hollie Ann Hatch, Cam Cooper, Sallie Castle, Charlotte Baker and Nate Farrell, all of whom volunteered their talents for nexStage’s main annual fundraiser of the year. Monies go for school outreach and scholarships and other theater programming.
   The actors all live in the valley and have appeared in plays here before, with the exception of newcomer Nate Farrell, who debuts at the nexStage playing a British secret agent in “The Last Dance of Dr. Disco.” Farrell, 27, moved to Ketchum in 2011 from Dorset, Vt., to work as a snowboard promotions manager for Smith Optics. Farrell’s father is a professional actor with a second career as a contractor.
   “One of my favorite memories of my Dad was of him acting in a murder mystery dinner train ride in Vermont every fall when I was a kid,” Farrell recalled. “He now lives in Indiana and sadly won’t be here to see my murder mystery performance in Idaho.”
   “The Last Dance of Dr. Disco” is set in a 70s nightclub: “Studio 120” transformed with the help of mirror balls, 70s graphics and glitz. Each table of guests will receive a packet of information, watch the action on stage and then have the task of solving the murder mystery, with clues dotted all around the theater, and prizes for the winning team of sleuths.
   The event starts at 6 p.m. with drinks and photo ops in the lobby, followed by the show at 7 p.m., a buffet catered by The Sawtooth Club after the first act and dancing to 70s hits after the show.
   “It’s James Bond meets Saturday Night Fever with a little Austin Powers thrown in,” says Keith Moore, who is directing the show with his wife, Patsy. The managing director of nexStage, Kathy Wygle, plans to join all the volunteers working the event by dressing in 70s disco garb. Tickets are $75 each and available by calling the nexStage, 120 S Main Street, at 726-9124.
