Jaquet endorses Remington

I am writing to confirm that as of Nov. 30, 2012 I will no longer be your Idaho state representative.

I have appreciated getting to know you and working for you these many years, but now it is time for someone else to be elected to my position.

I think that John Remington of Ketchum will represent District 26 in the way that you have enjoyed with our current legislative delegation, which consists of Donna Pence, Michelle Stennett and me. We have always looked at our challenges like a team and tried to find the best solutions for our constituents.

John Remington will continue this model of representation. John has been following Michelle, Donna and me throughout the legislative district since last October. He has met so many of you, listened to your concerns and will hit the ground running as a result.

John has taught history for over 30 years. John was the athletic director of The Community School and in this capacity he met so many of you and provided leadership and camaraderie to the people in the 10 districts that his school competed against.

John was awarded the Athletic Director of the Year honor in District IV, 1A, which includes our legislative district of Camas, Blaine, Lincoln and Gooding counties.

John and his wife, Rita, who is at educator at Hemingway Elementary in Ketchum, have two sons and have lived here for 27 years. John is loved by his students who affectionately refer to him as “Rem.”

John will continue our tradition of listening, looking for consensus and compromise. He will not be bound by ideology. I know our state thrives with minority voices in the legislature. It’s when problems get solved, not shoved aside. As (former Idaho) Gov. Batt said in a couple of guest opinion columns, Idaho needs political balance.

Our state is at a crossroads with regard to education. A strong, educated voice and advocate for education will be beneficial to the school districts in our legislative district. I urge you give John your vote on Nov. 6.
