Middle school football keeps rolling along

A team with a mission

Wood River Middle School’s eighth-grade football team stretched its winning streak to four games last Tuesday with a 14-8 home triumph over previously unbeaten West Minico of Paul in a game played at Chuck Turner Field, Hailey.

Head coach Craig Kaminski said the young Wolverines have beaten East Minico of Rupert 24-6, O’Leary of Twin Falls 32-6, Stuart of Twin Falls 24-6 and West Minico 14-8.

Kaminski said, “Following an undefeated season in 2011, this group has had a bulls eye focused on them, and they continue to perform. They’re a special group of self-motivated kids, who seem to understand that they’re only as good as their weakest link. Their preparation and work ethic in practice is second to none.”

The coach is also proud that his team has a season motto based on the principles of the Tommy Valentine “All In, All the Time” Foundation.

In 2008, Navy SEAL Valentine was killed during a parachute training exercise in Arizona. An elite warrior, Valentine was a part of the elite and secretive Naval Special Warfare Development Group.

Two years ago Valentine’s wife set up a tribute fund to help surviving spouses and children of fallen military personnel. Valentine is survived by a wife and two young children.

Kaminski said, “Prior to each game we pick three captains who wear an ‘All In, All the Time’ hat. The kids love it. When we take the field the captains wear their hats and walk in unison on to the field.”
