163 to the summit

A brand-new face and a very familiar one emerged as the winners of Saturday’s 34th annual Baldy Hill Climb on a 1.86-mile, 3,140 vertical foot course up the Warm Springs side of Sun Valley Resort’s principal ski mountain.

Ketchum’s Miles Fink-Debray, 24, won his sixth Baldy climb in seven years at 36:09, 46 seconds ahead of second-place Reid Pletcher (36:55) and over two minutes faster than last year’s BHC men’s champion and third-place Michael Tobin (38:14) of Boise.

Tobin, 48, a seven-time BHC winner and course record holder, captured the “Cheeso Double” that also featured a mountain bike race up Baldy.

Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Gold Team skier Lucy Garrec, 23, from Freeport, Me. won the women’s title (44:50), in 13th place of 82 racing class finishers Saturday.

Garrec competed in cross-country skiing for Colby College and University of Vermont. In March she medaled in third place at the NCAA Nordic Ski Championships 15-kilometer classic race in Bozeman, Mt.

Hiking (recreational class) winners were Gretel Kearney (52:27) and Mike Wolter (52:52).

Full racing and hiking results on page B-8. Mountain bike results will be published when they become available, but here are the top finishers:
