England close to leader at Mountain Home

Cross country for 466 runners

Wood River High senior Chase England finished a strong second and medaled in Friday’s Mountain Home Invitational boys’ cross country footrace at Desert Canyon Golf Course in Mountain Home.

In a field of 125 boys, England (16:59) was less than 10 seconds off the winning pace of Meridian sophomore Dwain Stucker (16:50), an up-and-coming runner who finished ninth as a freshman among a bunch of upperclassmen at last year’s State 5A run.

There were 21 Wood River High School runners competing Friday among 236 varsity and 230 junior varsity runners at Mountain Home. Coach Monte Brothwell said, “The weather was a little warm for a couple of races but it was a great day at Mountain Home.”

Next: Dani Bates Twin Falls Invitational today, Wednesday at Canyon Springs Golf Course in the Snake River Canyon.
