Commissioners honor Bowman

Open House at courthouse Tuesday

By KATHERINE WUTZ
Express Staff Writer

Resigning Blaine County Commissioner Tom Bowman will be feted at the Blaine County Courthouse on Tuesday, as county staff and commissioners take time to thank him for nearly eight years of service on the three-person board.

The county will throw an open house on Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Blaine County Courthouse in Hailey. The open house will follow recognition of Bowman during a commissioners meeting. Light refreshments will be served.

Bowman announced his resignation on July 31, saying he was ending his term early to become chief executive officer of Sentinel Fire and Security. Bowman worked for Sentinel as part of the sale of his business to that company from 1999 until 2001.

Before being elected to the commission in January 2005, Bowman served on the Blaine County Planning and Zoning Commission from 1991-2001, when he moved to Hawaii.

He was also was a member of the Sun Valley Fire Department in 1984 and served on the Ketchum Fire Department from 1984 to 2001, then again from 2003 to 2005.

Tuesday’s meeting will be Bowman’s last, but his departure is not the only order of business. The commissioners will also prepare for a meeting of the Friedman Memorial Airport Authority on Tuesday night.

The Airport Authority meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Blaine County Courthouse in Hailey and will include an update on the airport’s outreach efforts.
