Blaine County Prosecuting Attorney Jim Thomas was recognized by the Idaho Association of Counties last week as this year’s outstanding elected official.

Thomas was announced as the winner of the state’s Mills-Adler Award both last week and during a public meeting of the Blaine County commissioners on Tuesday.

The award, named for a former Lincoln County sheriff and Payette County treasurer, is given to elected officials who, according to the association, have “made significant contributions to the improvement of the Idaho Association of Counties through their dedicated services.”

Thomas said during the meeting on Tuesday that he was honored, and that he appreciates the staff members in the prosecuting attorney’s office for all of their efforts.

“Without their dedication and hard work making me look good, this never would have happened,” he said.

Thomas has served Blaine County for 16 years, first as chief deputy prosecutor. He was elected as prosecuting attorney in 2000. He has extensive experience in working on domestic and sexual violence issues and has spoken to the Idaho Association of Counties on topics ranging from land use to the Sarah Johnson homicide.
