Hailey boosts water, sewer fees
The Hailey City Council voted Monday to increase water base monthly fees from $7.45 to $8.32, with a rise in the cost per 1,000 gallons, up to 30,000 gallons, from 20 cents to 25 cents.
The council also voted to increase wastewater base monthly fees from $11.24 to $13.59, with a rise in the rate per 1,000 gallons used from $3.24 to $3.94.
Ann Romney to visit Idaho
Ann Romney, wife of presidential candidate Mitt Romney, will visit Idaho next week for a high-profile fundraiser.
Travis Hawkes, state finance chairman for Romney’s campaign, has helped raise $3.2 million from Idahoans so far.
Ann Romney will appear Thursday, Sept. 27, at The Club at SpurWing in Meridian.
The event has four contribution levels: $1,000 per person or couple for a general reception at 6 p.m., $5,000 per couple or person for a V.I.P. photo reception at 5:30 p.m. plus the general reception and $15,000 per couple or person for a private 6:30 p.m. dinner with Ann Romney plus the other two receptions.
Donors at the $25,000 level will be able to attend all three events and be listed as co-hosts of the evening.

Bellevue leaders hear reports
The Bellevue City Council on Thursday, Sept. 13, heard the following reports:
( Bellevue Marshal Larry Clark and volunteers rebuilt a speed-reading radar machine to make it more portable, at no cost to the city.
( Planning Director Craig Eckles said a group of boating enthusiasts will soon present plans for a proposed kayaking park that could be installed south of the Broadford Road bridge.
( Early in September, a motorist knocked the top off a fire hydrant near the Giddyup Cafe, sending water spraying into the air. The accident is covered by insurance.
( The Public Works Department sold used vehicles at auction, raising $400. Another auction is planned for the near future and will be advertised in the Idaho Mountain Express.
Learn to garden with a cold frame
On Saturday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon, the Building Material Thrift Store will present a free workshop on cold-frame construction using reclaimed materials. A cold frame is an easy do-it-yourself project demonstrating how you can divert materials from our landfills and avoid the production of new materials.
Participants in the workshop will learn about constructing a simple cold frame as well as season-extension gardening, cold frame placement and more. The store will have materials on-hand and available for purchase for those who would like to build along with the facilitators. Please reserve your materials ahead of time through the ERC.
The event is a part of the Hailey Community Climate Challenge, which explores steps that communities can take to reduce greenhouse gases.

Open house to discuss fishing
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking comments on proposed changes to statewide fishing rules, regional fishing rules and its 2013-2018 Statewide Fisheries Management Plan.
An open house meeting will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 5-7 p.m. at the regional office in Jerome, two miles north of the Flying J off of Highway 93.
The only local proposed change is a new six bass bag limit—with no length limit—at Magic Reservoir.
Other changes include adopting a three-year fishing rule period—the current period is two years—and increasing the statewide spring steelhead bag limit to 40 fish per season.

Backwoods to honor Bruce Weber
To honor former store Manager Bruce Weber and to help his widow, Colleen, Backwoods Mountain Sports in Ketchum will hold the Bruce Weber sample/employee yard sale in the upstairs Backwoods parking lot on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the Beast Feast barbecue and beer fest following.
A store employee for 22 years, Weber died suddenly on Aug. 22.
There will also be a silent auction for artwork from Tina Cole and Renee Kuross.
Donations will be accepted for the food and beverages, and all the proceeds will go to Colleen to assist her through the coming year. Separate donations to the Bruce Weber Fund at Zions Bank will also be appreciated.
