Smell the season’s change

“The Gathering” brings winter’s sights and sounds to Sun Valley Resort

The third annual Sun Valley Gathering on Friday, Sept. 21, and Saturday, Sept. 22, will showcase talent from near and far in music and film dedicated to the mountain lifestyle: those who live it and the talent and creativity of the filmmakers representing it.
The event kickoff party for Sun Valley’s 77th ski season will bring together top snow-sports filmmakers, athletes, sponsors and media, and live music shows.
Official “Gathering” headquarters will be at the Sun Valley Lodge. For full festival details, including film submission guidelines and daily screening schedules, visit www.sunvalley.com/gathering.
Friday events start at the Sun Valley Opera House with a barbecue, rail and skate jam at
5 p.m. with athlete meet-and-greets and films to follow. Jonathan Warren and The Billy Goats will play that night at Whiskey Jacques’ in
Ketchum.
Saturday, at 11 a.m. is the PBR Snow Bum Pro Golf Scramble. After nine holes, PBRs will be pouring on the deck at Big Wood Grill.  Limited space is available, so contact Mike Fitzpatrick,
mfitzpatrick@sunvalley.com, or Brian Callahan, bcallahan@sunvalley.com, to sign up.
Much of the rest of the afternoon will be at the Sun Valley Opera House with The Gathering Amateur Film Competition at 3 p.m. and ending at Whiskey Jacques’, with lots of good stuff in between, with the Whiskey Blanket band at 10:30 p.m. All-access festival pass goes for $25 and is available at the Sun Valley recreation office, 622-2135.
