Aging gracefully

Program shows the way

Valley senior citizens are encouraged to participate in Active Aging Week, from Monday, Sept. 24, through Saturday, Sept. 29, described as an opportunity to learn how to make healthy choices for the future.
The theme is “Many journeys, many destinations,” in recognition of the fact that older adults choose to travel along individual paths based on their interest and needs. Destinations that include good health and well-being add longevity to the plan and create a better quality of life.
Topics will focus on letting go of outdated concepts about aging while embracing the new realities of active aging, or the philosophy that people can optimize their physical, social and mental well-being throughout their lives.
Zenergy is hosting a full schedule of classes, all open to the public for a $10 donation that will go to the Senior Center Meals on Wheels program. The classes will include Pilates, a wellness walk, nutrition talk, core stability, balance, movement to music and yoga.
“Zenergy is proud to partner with ICAA to offer a local Active Aging Week. We have created 10 specialty classes and are additionally opening up eight of our regularly scheduled classes to the local senior population” said Kerry Samudio, Zenergy’s marketing director. “Sponsorships are also available for those on a fixed budget.”
Active Aging Week, organized by the International Council on Active Aging, is a national observance that showcases the healthy choices and diverse opportunities available to older adults in a fun and educational atmosphere.
“In today’s world, older adults have longer life spans and can choose lifestyles that support better health—physical and mental,” said Colin Milner, CEO of the International Council on Active Aging. “Their wisdom and experience are needed by their communities, and their own well-being is stimulated by choosing meaningful pursuits. Active Aging Week is the annual event that reinforces the tremendous opportunities available to the aging population.”
