Muffy finally has her gold

In handcycling ITT

The Seattle Ridge ski run named for her is called “Muffy’s Medals”—and now Sun Valley’s Muffy Davis, 39, finally has a gold one.
Davis started three days of handcycling competition Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Paralympic Games in London, England, by winning the gold medal in individual time trial (ITT). She was one of three Americans earning 16-kilometer ITT medals on the Brands Hatch motor race track.
In her first Paralympics as a handcyclist, Davis captured a gold medal in the women’s H1-2 ITT with a time of 31:06.39, two minutes, five seconds ahead of silver medalist Karen Darke of Great Britain (33:16.09).  Swiss racer Ursal Schwaller won bronze (34:56.55).
Wednesday’s result meant that Davis has won every race she has entered in 2012, including three World Cup gold medals. American Alicia Dana of Putney, Vt., finished fifth with a time of 37:14.18. The gold medal was Davis’ fifth medal as a Paralympian, but her first gold.
Davis, paralyzed from a 1989 skiing accident on Baldy at age 16, returned to the skiing sport as a Paralympian in 1998 and won a bronze medal in alpine skiing at Nagano, Japan.
Davis added silvers in downhill, super giant slalom and giant slalom mono-skiing at the 2002 Paralympics in Utah.
