Marketing Alliance was betrayed

I am outraged over the decision of the Sun Valley City Council to cut funding for the Sun Valley Marketing Alliance.

Forget the prior cooperative agreement set forth between Sun Valley and Ketchum to support the Marketing Alliance and the prior decisions initiated by the Sun Valley City Council to establish the Marketing Alliance in the first place. By cutting the necessary funding, Sun Valley has effectively hurt all the businesses in the valley trying to survive by making us a non-player in resort destinations.

You have effectively thrown the Marketing Alliance under the bus after only a year of its efforts. One year is not enough time to reestablish a resort that is literally unknown and currently appeals only to baby boomers. The Marketing Alliance has made strides to change that perception. But I’m sure Councilman Bob Youngman feels he can do a better job of marketing our area.

We are a “major league” destination acting as a “minor league” player thanks to the recent efforts of the Sun Valley City Council. In my opinion, you pay for marketing expertise. It’s obvious Sun Valley thinks little of the efforts of the Marketing Alliance. The impact on the citizens in the valley will be that more closures of necessary services and businesses will follow.
