WRHS runner England captures first race

Wins 3.1-miler in Twin Falls

Wood River High School senior Chase England registered a strong head start on the 2012 prep cross country competition season Friday, Aug. 24.

He won the Jerome/Twin Falls Invitational 3.1-mile footrace by 48 seconds at the College of Southern Idaho campus in Twin Falls.

England (17:57) finished alone ahead of Century sophomore Austin Olcott (18:45) and a bevy of Jerome boys in the 77-runner boys’ field.

Century of Pocatello senior Hannah McInturff (20:13) also finished alone among 73 girls, winning her race by 80 seconds.

On a near-perfect weather day with no wind or smoke, and 78 degree temperatures, there were 13 Wood River runners in the seven-school field. The Jerome Tigers won both the boys’ and girls’ team titles.

Next: Wood River competes Thursday, Aug. 30 at 4 p.m. the Minico Invitational along Lake Walcott in Rupert. Top results and Wolverine runners from Twin Falls follow:
