The Wagon Days Committee has rented the Lane Mercantile building on Main Street in Ketchum to serveas a temporary headquarters for event organizers and as a retail base for souvenir sales.
On Aug. 20, the Ketchum City Council approved the Wagon Days Committee’s request to use $500 of its budget to rent the former Starbucks building for two weeks.
“I think it will have a positive public effect and will help the city earn more revenue from Wagon Days,” Wagon Days coordinator Heather LaMonica-Deckard said at the meeting.
The council also authorized the Wagon Days Committee to facilitate credit card transactions for souvenir sales.
City Administrator Gary Marks fully supported the authorization of credit cards for Wagon Days sales.
“I strongly recommend that you pass this,” he said. “Revenue needs to go up from Wagon Days. I think that enabling tourists to use credit cards and having somewhere to buy souvenirs is a great way to do this.”
The headquarters is located on the corner of Main Street and Sun Valley Road. It will be open daily from noon to 5 p.m.
Reserved seats for the Big Hitch Wagon days Parade cost $15 in advance, $20 the day of the parade. The headquarters will also sell 2012 Wagon Days posters, buttons, hats, coffee mugs, bags and vintage souvenirs.
