Cutthroat boys earn first win, 9-0 over Declo

Soccer teams travel to McCall today

Wednesday’s trip to Declo turned into a pair of 9-0 High Desert Soccer Conference wins for the Community School boys’ and girls’ soccer teams.
Coach Richard Whitelaw’s Cutthroat boys (1-1-0) captured their first HDSC victory with a 9-0 shutout led by “Man of the Match” Mason Noyes, a senior who scored two goals.
Also stashing away two goals apiece were senior Cameron Jenner and junior Bobby Corker. Sophomore Roger Figge and freshman Tom Gillespie contributed their first-ever varsity goals. Senior Ben Kanellitsas also scored.
The Cutthroat boys play McCall-Donnelly today, Friday at 7 p.m. in McCall, then visit Gooding Monday, Aug. 27 and host Filer on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Browning Field in Elkhorn. Gooding earned a 3-3 draw with Buhl on Wednesday night, while Wendell blanked Filer 4-0.
Coach Kelly Feldman’s Cutthroat girls (2-0-0) collected their second straight 9-0 HDSC triumph Wednesday, this one over the Declo Hornets, and are looking forward to today’s first of two games against the reigning State 3A champion McCall-Donnelly Vandals, at 5 p.m.
With her three-goal “hat trick” against Declo, junior striker and last year’s top scorer Hannah Dies tied Langely McNeal with 51 career goals for second place on the all-time Cutthroat scoring list. All-time leading scorer Ellie Swanson (63) added two goals in the winning effort at Declo.
Also scoring for the Cutthroat girls were junior Whitney Engelmann, senior Taylor Figge, junior Emi Carr and freshman Autumn Fluetsch.
