XTERRA triathlon brings out 59 at McCall

On 26.5-mile course


Wood River Valley triathletes joined the field of 59 in the seventh annual XTERRA Wild Ride Triathlon staged Sunday, Aug. 19 at Ponderosa State Park north of McCall, Idaho.

The mass start competition for 44 men and 15 women featured a 0.75-mile swim in Payette Lake, a 19.5-mile bike ride and 6.2-mile trail run.

Hailey’s Brad Mitchell clocked the third-fastest run time among the individuals and Brad Walker of Hailey, finished 10th overall among the five Wood River triathletes.

Winner was Adam Wirth of Boise in 2.27:26 featuring splits of 16:47 for the swim, 1.26:30 bike and 43:09 run. He won by six-and-a-half minutes over Rick Floyd of Boise, 2.33:56.

The women’s winner was Boise’s Jenny Tobin in 2.49:31 with splits of 18:55, 1.41:33 and 47:22. Tobin placed 13th overall and prevailed by 12 minutes over runner-up Kara Nielsen of Walla Walla, Wash.

Wood River results starting with overall placings:

8—Brad Mitchell 2.46:03 with splits 24:48, 1.37:42, 41:01 (2nd Men’s 40-44).

10—Brad Walker 2.47:34 with splits 18:41, 1.36:44, 50:21 (4th Men’s 30-34). 15—Erik Lisk 2.56:59 with splits 22:19, 1.41:19, 48:57 (5th Men’s 30-34).

23—Tony Buoncristiani 3.09:36 with splits 22:02, 1.47:34, 56:17 (8th Men’s 40-44). 45—Nicole Lisk 3.55:39 with splits 20:03, 2.24:52, 1.06:20 (8th woman, 2nd Women’s 30-34).
