Sun Valley on Ice producers made the promise to bring new energy to this summer's Saturday night shows. They've done it all summer, and they'll ratchet up the energy Saturday.

Saturday's performance at Sun Valley Skating Center will debut a new "Let's Be Bad," routine revolving around the legend of Los Angeles native Norma Jeane Mortenson.

That was the real name of actress and 1950s/1960s sex symbol Marilyn Monroe. She returned to the American radar in August on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of her untimely death at age 36.

Yet "blonde bombshell" Monroe is never really out of vogue—and probably never will be, as long as movies and tape exist of her talents, comedic gift and unique charms.

When NBC television premiered its hit musical show "Smash" last season, one of the most popular segments on the fifth episode of the first season focused on a Monroe-like character in the process of shooting one of the great comedies of all time, "Some Like It Hot."

Songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman wrote an original song for the sketch and called it "Let's Be Bad." It was sung by "Smash" character Ivy Lynn in the Monroe role. Actress Megan Hilty, 31, of Bellevue, Wash. played Ivy Lynn and the number earned choreographer Joshua Bergasse a 2012 Prime Time Emmy nomination for choreography.

On Saturday night, Sun Valley on Ice will put its own stamp on "Let's Be Bad" featuring an attractive figure skating cast including Cari Maus, Clare King, Darlin Baker, Christiana Johnson and Nicole Pratt.

It should be a highlight of a star-studded 70-minute show headlined by American Evan Lysacek in his second Sun Valley appearance of the 10-show season. At Vancouver in 2010, Lysacek became the first American to win the Olympic title in men's singles since Brian Boitano in 1988.

Boitano, by the way, will headline the Aug. 25 show, followed on Saturday, Sept. 1 by the season finale featuring reigning Olympic ice dancing silver medalists and 2011 world gold medalists Meryl Davis, 25, and Charlie White, 24. They are the four-time defending U.S. champions.

Non-refundable tickets are now on sale at the Sun Valley Recreation Office, 622-2135. Tickets may be purchased online at All seating is reserved and advance reservations are recommended. You can also buy tickets at the gate before the shows.
