Sun Valley fills city clerk vacancy

Hannah Stauts to join staff on Oct. 1

Hannah Stauts

The Sun Valley City Council has voted unanimously to hire Idaho native and former Stanley Mayor Hannah Stauts as the new city clerk starting Oct. 1.

Stauts was selected Aug. 9 over five other candidates after a detailed assessment process, according to a city of Sun Valley news release.

"My interview with her verified that she is a very qualified and experienced municipal officer," Mayor Dewayne Briscoe said. "Her communication skills are excellent and her poise and passion for the work here at Sun Valley was self-evident."

Stauts was elected mayor of Stanley at the age of 22 in 2005, making her the youngest mayor in Idaho history and the youngest elected female mayor in U.S. history. During her mayoral term, she also served as city clerk for some time out of necessity. She was responsible for all city clerk duties, including contract development and monitoring, public records management and grant applications.

Stauts has a bachelor's degree in political science from Boise State University and expects to complete her master's of public administration degree in 2013 from Montana State University. She currently works as a conservation associate for the Greater Yellowstone Coalition.
