Safe Haven is proud of record

Earlier this month, valley resident Cherry Thornton asked a number of questions in a letter to the editor regarding the status of a senior care facility for Blaine County.

First off, Safe Haven has so far not asked anyone to approve its proposed senior care facility at Bell Mountain. All we have done is ask the city of Bellevue to annex 9 acres of land we have under contract a few blocks away from our existing facility in Bellevue. Any plans to develop this property will be presented to the city after we are annexed. That will be the time to examine any proposals.

Secondly, Cherry Thornton seems to make a broad and unfounded assertion that "for profit" facilities provide inferior care to our valued elders, while "nonprofit" (taxpayer subsidized) facilities provide superior care. I have been in the senior care business for over 30 years and I know not of studies or reports which would substantiate Thornton's claims. On the contrary, the residents at our assisted-living centers are valued clients. If they are not happy, engaged and well cared for, we cannot succeed as a business.

I would invite Cherry Thornton, or any member of the Blaine County community, to conduct their own due diligence. You are invited to stop by and tour our existing facilities in Bellevue, Burley, Challis, Gooding, Lava Hot Springs, Shelley or Wendell. Spend some time to chat with the residents and staff. I think you will be impressed with the level of care, cleanliness and compassion. You also just might meet some new and interesting friends.
