Nearly 1,500 finish Burley Spudman

11 Wood River athletes cross the line


Eleven Wood River Valley triathletes joined 1,459 finishers Saturday, July 28 in the 26th annual Burley Lions Club Spudman Triathlon, a 51.5-kilometer (31.9-mile) endurance test at Burley. There were 947 men and 512 women finishing.

Burley-area native B.J. Christenson, 34, of North Salt Lake City, Utah, captured his fourth straight Burley Spudman title by nearly seven minutes in 1.51:40 with splits of 13:57 for the 0.93-mile swim, 1.00:57 for the 24.8-mile bicycle ride and 34:43 for a 6.2-mile run.

Jerome's Mackenzie Chojnacky, 19, won the Spudman women's division by over seven minutes in 2.13:13, good for 46th overall. Her splits were 16:12, 1.13:09 and 40:10. Chojnacky won the State 4A cross-country title and State 4A 1600-meter run championship as a Jerome High senior in 2010-11.

Top class placing from locals came from Shalece Beck, 36, of Bellevue. She placed fifth in Women's 35-39 at 2.27:16 with splits of 19:14/1.17:43/45:38. She placed 18th among women and 195th overall.

611—David Allred, 29, of Hailey 2.44:25, 31st Men's 25-29, 495th among men, splits 29:20/1.11:55/56:42. 721—Gary Beck, 40, of Bellevue 2.49:22, 71st Men's 40-44, 569th among men, splits 24:52/1.13:27/1.04:26.

1052—Rachael Allred, 28, of Hailey 3.04:23, 41st Women's 25-29, 277th among women, splits 22:16/1.24:31/1.07:39. 1061—Kerry Nilsen, 36, of Hailey 3.04:54, 55th Women's 35-39, 283rd among women, splits 23:23/1.22:45/1.11:28.

1067—Analia Passey, 37, of Hailey 3.05:24, 57th Women's 35-39, 286th among women, splits 34:38/1.20:41/1.04:41. 1116—Christi Thompson, 28, of Hailey 3.08:55, 43rd Women's 25-29, 312th among women, splits 26:09/1.26:21/1.08:16. 1117—Bradley Thompson, 29, of Hailey 3.08:59, 61st Men's 25-29, 805th among men, splits 24:27/1.26:25/1.08:21.
