A 53-year-old Hailey woman has been charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence following a traffic accident late Sunday afternoon in south Hailey.

Cindy M. Stenkamp, arrested by Hailey police following the crash at about 4:25 p.m., was formally charged with the crime on Monday in Blaine County Magistrate Court. Stenkamp pleaded not guilty.

She is currently free on $1,000 bond. Hailey attorney Christopher Simms was appointed public defender. A pretrial conference was scheduled for Sept. 10.

Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter said Stenkamp, driving a 1998 Jeep Wrangler, ran into a 1997 GMC pickup driven by Brian Scott Fager, 36, of Gooding, at the intersection of Main Street and Fourth Avenue.

Gunter said Stenkamp was southbound on Fourth Avenue and stopped at the stop sign but then proceeded, making a left-hand turn and running into the side of the northbound Fager vehicle.

"Apparently, she didn't see him," Gunter said.

A Wood River Fire & Rescue ambulance was dispatched to the accident scene but Gunter said no one required hospital transport.

Gunter said Stenkamp will also be issued a citation alleging she failed to yield from the stop sign.
