Forest Road should be reopened

On May 21, the Forest Service decided to close and remove six-tenths of a mile of Road 207 between its junction with the Alturas Road 205 and the Cabin Creek Road 438 in Blaine County.

This decision failed to consider public safety for recreational users, including four church camps, three campgrounds, two day use areas, and 34 cabin owners, all of whom would have no escape route from a forest fire near Highway 75.

This decision violates the Sawtooth National Recreation Area Act because it does not enhance recreation values: Recreation must be safe. Remember that the Valley Road Fire of 2005 destroyed 40,000 acres in the SNRA.

The public should ask the Forest Supervisor, 2647 Kimberly Road East, Twin Falls, ID 83301 to reverse this bad decision.
