On the morning of July 31, local resident and paragliding pilot Nate Scales launched his paraglider from Bald Mountain and approximately eight hours later, landed near Bozeman, Montana covering a distance of 319 kilometers, (198.2 miles).

Scales' flight of nearly 200 miles is the longest foot launched paragliding flight ever flown in the USA.

On July 1, 2012 Ketchum resident Matt Beechinor broke that record with a flight from Bald Mountain to a point east of Anaconda, Mont. for distance of 188.5 miles.

The flight by Beechinor not only broke the Idaho state record, but also the US national distance record.

Boise State opens USA Today Coaches' Poll at No. 22

It will be a rebuilding year for the Boise State Broncos in 2012 as the USA Today Coaches' Preseason Poll was released this week.

Boise State will begin the year at No. 22, and will open the season at Michigan State, which ranks No. 13. The two teams play on Friday, August 31.

This is Boise State's lowest preseason ranking since 2008 when the Broncos weren't ranked at all.

Boise State finished 2011 as the No. 6 team in the nation.

There is a lot of emphasis on this year's opening game in East Lansing, Mich. because the Spartans are the only team that is ranked on Boise State's schedule.

The opening game will be aired on ESPN at 6 p.m. MST.
