As the sun shined bright on Hailey's Skate Park, a rodeo took place last Saturday. But it wasn't a usual rodeo, it was a Concrete Rodeo, at which the best skateboarders in the area competed for the prize of Top Skater.

Skaters came from all over the valley, as well as from Twin Falls, Buhl and Jerome.

Skyler Morgan of Bellevue won 1st place in the head-to-head Jousting Finals when he beat fellow Hailey resident Gene Fairbrother in the title "joust" to claim the top spot.

Fairbrother took 2nd place with Jedson Waters, also of Hailey, taking 3rd.

Competition was split into age group competition and the Jousting Tournament.

The joust was seeded upon how a skater did in his/her age group. Skaters 9 years and older were allowed to compete in the joust.

Morgan came in as the No. 1 seed and met Waters who was the No. 4 seed in the semi-final round in the joust with Morgan prevailing.

Fairbrother was the No. 3 seed and met Anthony Poehler of Buhl and won. Poehler would eventually lose to Waters in the consolation round.

The Concrete Rodeo started in 2003 in the Salt Lake City area. In 2004, the rodeo broadened out and did nine events in the Intermountain and Northwest regions.

The event grew to 14 events in 2005 when the Concrete Rodeo held the first Grand National Finals in Hailey.
