Wrong time for a pay raise

A $21,532 raise for each of the three county commissioners? Really? In this economy, the county commissioners have voted and approved the single biggest pay raise in Blaine County history. As Commissioner Angenie McCleary explained, it is a "potential" raise and it could be decreased. Gee, think that will happen?

Many people in Blaine County are struggling with employment, cutbacks and in many cases raises, if at all, consisting of 1-2 percent. Do the commissioners have no shame voting themselves a 39 percent increase? I've talked to many people in our valley who are as outraged as I am. Many have suggested recall, electing someone, anyone else in the next election for commissioners. Interesting thoughts.

The Mountain Express headline, "Not looking for a raise," seems very appropriate. Most of Blaine County is not looking for one either. That is because there are few out there. I'm suggesting that the present commissioners should be looking for new jobs, not raises.
