Legion gives Burley a scare

Drops close 11-9 contest

Burley Green Sox ballplayers have put together one of the best seasons in the American Legion Area C "A" ranks this summer, but the Wood River Wranglers gave the Green Sox a run for their money Tuesday.

Out-hitting Burley 13-10 for the game and building a 7-4 lead in the fourth inning, coach Trent Seamons' Wood River Legion squad pushed the Green Sox all the way to the seventh inning before falling 11-9.

Wood River (4-12), which lost 11-1 in Tuesday's second game, nearly snapped Burley's 15-game winning streak in the first game on the Green Sox field behind the strong starting pitching of Finn Isaacson.

Alec Nordsieck stroked three hits, Isaacson chipped in with a run-scoring double and Gunnar Gibson drove home a pair of runners for the Wranglers. Nic Brunker drove home Wood River's only run in the five-inning run-rule nightcap.

Wood River traveled to play the Pocatello Rebels Wednesday night and will wrap up its 2012 summer season Saturday, July 21 with a home league doubleheader against the Twin Falls Hawks at Founders Field in Hailey, starting at 11 a.m.
