Revisit mining history with local historian
Local historian Tom Blanchard will give a free community lecture on "Love and Tragedy at the Minnie Moore Mine" on Thursday, June 28, at 6 p.m., in Room 509 of the Community Campus.
The lecture will illuminate the geological and personal dramas that have shaped the Wood River Valley's history, focusing on one of the main mines in the area, the Minnie Moore. Blanchard has researched central Idaho mines extensively. He serves on the board of trustees of the Idaho State Historical Society.
The talk is sponsored by the Idaho Humanities Council and the College of Southern Idaho Blaine County Campus.
The free lecture precedes a CSI tour of Wood River Valley mines. Advance registration is required for the tour, which will run Thursday, July 19, and Friday, July 20. There is a $99 tuition fee for the tour.

Hear author explain Bohemian artists
Join author Beth Gates Warren as she introduces some of the archetypal characters who populated California in a free lecture, "Los Angeles During Its Bohemian Heyday: 1910--1925," on Thursday, June 28, at 6:30 pm. The lecture will be held at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts in Ketchum.
"A bohemian," Warren explains, "is a person with artistic or intellectual aspirations who lives an unconventional life. No words could better describe people like Edward Weston and Margrethe Mather and their companions, as they proceeded to live life moment to moment, with little regard for propriety or other people's expectations."

Enjoy 'A Starry, Starry Night' benefit
The annual Our Lady of the Snows Benefit, "A Starry, Starry Night" will be held at the Valley Club north of Hailey on Friday, June 29, with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres followed by a four-course dinner and entertainment by R.L. Rowsey and A Few Good Men chorus.
Auctioneer Mike Murphy will offer vacation homes in Hawaii and Mexico, in-home chef-prepared meals, tickets to a Bears game, guided fishing trip on the Big Lost River and more.

Screening of 'Lucky Express' offered
"Lucky Express," a full-length feature documentary that winds through India's railways and stations in the company of destitute children who have made Indian Railways their vast network and home, will be shown Thursday, June 28, at 7 p.m. at the Community School auditorium.
The screening is a fundraiser for these children, whose story director Anna Fischer has been documenting for several years.

Understand how artists see Shoshone Falls
Toby Jurovics, chief curator and Holland curator of American Western art at the Joslyn Art Museum, will speak in Ketchum on photographers Thomas Joshua Cooper and Timothy H. O'Sullivan, both of whom have photographs of Idaho's Shoshone Falls on view at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts.
The talk will be held Tuesday, July 3, at The Center in Ketchum at 6:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
'A Night in Old Hollywood' benefits The Advocates
Attendees at the Advocates' annual Gala Black & White Soiree on Friday, July 6, will be astonished and amazed by the incredible talents of Bella Circo Productions' acrobats.
The event will feature vignette and walk-around performances throughout the evening. The Black and White Soiree's special theme this year is a Night in Old Hollywood. Guests are encouraged to don creative black and white attire.
The festive and elegant gala is the flagship fundraising event for the Advocates for Survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault and will take place at 5:30 p.m. on the Trail Creek lawn in Sun Valley. There will be a silent auction and raffle and music by DJ Lenny Joseph.
Proceeds fund life-changing services for more than 500 local women and children in need, and free communitywide prevention education for more than 4,000 students and adults annually. A client of the Advocates will deliver a moving and inspirational speech about her transformation from domestic violence victim to a powerful and confident survivor.
