City administrator search on hold

Sun Valley plans to restart hunt in mid-July

Express Staff Writer

Sun Valley residents must wait a few more months before knowing who will be their new city administrator, pending the outcome of an investigation that the city is undergoing.

City officials had selected an executive search firm this year to help find someone to replace Sharon Hammer, whose contract was terminated in January. But Mayor Dewayne Briscoe announced at a City Council meeting June 19 that the city would wait until a forensic investigation is completed before continuing the search.

"It was the best advice given to me that it was better to clean your house of essentially all issues so that you have more qualified applicants willing to step into that position," he said.

The Blaine County Prosecutor's Office also is conducting an investigation of internal city issues.

Briscoe said the forensic audit is expected to be done by June 30. The council should get a report of those findings in mid-July, at which time it will restart the search for a city administrator, he said. The search should be done in mid-October, with a selection of a city administrator in late October or early November.

Briscoe appointed Virginia Egger as interim executive assistant to the mayor in February to carry out some of those duties in the meantime.
