The Community Library in Ketchum is renewing its focus on children and teens while giving them information, knowledge and activities that they want in ways that will not just hold their attention but also capture their imagination.

"More and more families are using libraries, and the Community Library strives to be innovative and relevant," said Executive Director Colleen Crain.

The children's library has expanded its audio book selection and its summer reading program, revamped its storytime room and created a section for toddlers books. It has started a family book club and a "Read the book/watch the movie" activity. A bilingual story time is in the works, as is story time for babies.

Also in response to feedback, the children's library will be open some evenings, beginning this fall.

"A lot of people have been asking about that," said Jenine Lillian, the library's children's/youth services librarian. "It's great we can meet that need."

This fall, Lillian, who joined the library in May, will be making the rounds to schools in the valley to see how the facility can better serve kids, teachers and librarians.

"I love working with kids of all ages and working with parents and teachers," she said. "Definitely, building relationships is my primary focus."

Matching people with what they're looking for is like an adventure, she said.

"What is it that will make you really happy and how can we get that to you?" she said.

Crain said Lillian will bring a fresh perspective to the library, for the youngest patrons to young adults.

"Jenine brings to the library a fresh look at current library practices that will benefit the entire community," Crain said.

"Every library would like to be remembered by its local young populace as the place they learned to love all that libraries have to offer," she added.
