Swimmers on long course for Boise fling

Summer meets coming up


The Sun Valley 5B swim team joined 459 swimmers from 28 teams and four states at the Boise YMCA's Annual Spring Fling. The first long-course meet of the summer season was held May 18-20.

Most of coach Brian Gallagher's highly regarded squad posted significant personal-best times as they continue to dominate the pool and scoring.

Gallagher takes his entire SV5B squad on the road June 22-24 for the Elko High Altitude Invitational followed by the prestigious Pendleton (Ore.) Invitational meet July 6-8.

From Boise, Gallagher noted the following excellent results:

Maddie Johnson, 13, had a huge meet. Competing and winning in seven events with best times in six, she dropped 14.80 seconds in the 400 IM;

Elizabeth Fry, 17, competing in seven events with best times in three, dropped 1.35 seconds in the 100 back;

Tori Emerick, 18, competing in six events with best times in three, dropped almost 20 seconds in the 100 back;

Lena Friesen, 17, competed in six events with excellent finishes in the 50 and 200 breast and 200 IM;

Gus Kimball, 17, competed in five events, with best times in three. He dropped 1.23 seconds in 100 breast and 1.49 in the 50 fly;

Lisa Hart, 16, competing in six events, clocked best times in five and dropped 49.33 seconds in 400 Free and 22.39 seconds in the 200 free;

Tayler Bates, 16, competing in four events with best time in one, swam her first 1500 free in Snake River Swimming long-course competition;

Kaedi Fry, 15, competing in seven events with best times in two, dropped 2.44 in the 400 IM;

Mia Smith, 15, competing in six events with best times in four, dropped 11.97 seconds in 100 back and 3.65 in 100 free;

Loni Unser, 14, competing in seven events with best times in three, dropped 24.03 seconds in 400 free and swam her first 800 and 1500 free in Snake River long-course competition;

Olivia Wentzell, 14, competing in six events with best times in five, won the 100 breast with a 6.35 drop;

Ashley Dreyfus, 14, competing in seven events with best times in five, dropped 14.66 seconds in the 400 IM, 7.7 seconds in 200 IM and swam her first 800 free in Snake River long-course competition;

Mason Johnson, 12, competing in six events with best times in all six, dropped 11.61 seconds in the 200 IM.

Taking part in their first long-course (meter) meet for SV5B and swimming six events each were:

Zack Deal, 11, with strong finishes in 50 and 100 breast; Petra Glenn, 11, strong finishes in 100 free, and 50 and 100 fly; and Faye Prekeges, 11, who finished well in 100 free and 100 back.
