SV holiday tennis is June 29-July 1

Weekend before the Fourth

The timing of the Independence Day tennis tournament at Sun Valley is a little different in 2012. That’s because the holiday falls right in the middle of the week—so the tournament is set for the weekend before.

The Lyle Pearson Fourth of July Tennis Championships are set for Friday through Sunday, June 29-July 1. The three-day tournament is presented by Sun Valley Resort.

Final entry deadline is Tuesday, June 26 at midnight. Use tennislink.usta.com to sign up. The tournament identification is 250008112. Tournament director is David Perry.

Perry said the Lyle Pearson will again offer the largest purse in Idaho for Men’s Open Division based on a draw of at least 16 players ($300 singles champ, $150 finalists, $200 doubles winners, $100 finalists). Open women’s prize money equals the men, based on draw.

You must be a U.S. Tennis Association member to compete in the Open divisions. Non-USTA members are welcome to play in the unsanctioned 3.5 through 5.0 classes for singles and doubles, or the 7.0 to 9.0 classes in the mixed doubles category.

Tournament sponsors are Atkinsons’ Markets, Lyle Pearson of Boise and Sun Valley Resort. Players may enter three events, with two matches in each event guaranteed for all.

Players’ party featuring raffle prizes is Saturday, June 30 at 6 p.m. Because of the earlier date, the tournament doesn’t coincide with the Sun Valley Ice Show this year—but participants will receive 50% off the price of the tickets for the July 4 kickoff ice show.
