Motorcyclist injured in crash with deer

Rider was heading home to New Jersey

A 68-year-old New Jersey man was injured in a motorcycle accident Sunday morning after a collision with a deer near the intersection of Baseline and Gannett roads, south of Bellevue.

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office identified the man as Nicholas Vallario. Sheriff Gene Ramsey said Vallario suffered a possible right thumb fracture, road rash and a knee injury. Ramsey said he was wearing full riding gear and a helmet and reported that he saw the deer just before the collision.

Ramsey said the accident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. as Vallario and his wife were headed home to New Jersey on separate motorcycles. Vallario was riding a 2012 BMW.

"He came to rest on the left side of the road facing north," Ramsey said.

Vallario was transported to St. Luke's Wood River where he was treated and released the same day.
