Newly elected Ketchum City Council members Jim Slanetz and Michael David were sworn into office and took their places on the governing body Monday.

At the outset of the meeting the council voted to accept the canvassed election results for the May 15 special election.

Mayor Randy Hall thanked outgoing council members Curtis Kemp and Charles Friedman before administering the oath of office to the new members.

Slanetz has owned and operated the Board Bin sports store in Ketchum for nearly two dozen years.

David, the former executive director for the Blaine County Housing Authority, runs Sawtooth Produce Co. with a business partner.

Both are new to politics.

Hall said Kemp has been an "exemplary" volunteer and citizen for many years.

"Your heart has always been in the right place," he said.

Hall said he hoped Friedman—whom he appointed to the seat in March to replace Larry Helzel—would continue public service and community involvement.

"He brings a lot to this community," Hall said.

Friedman lost the election to David by one vote. City residents Mickey Garcia and Julie Lynn also were in the running for the two seats.

Hall thanked all the candidates.

"It does take a lot of courage to stand up," he said.
