Wheel Girls club is back for 2012

Girls learn to ride with Rusch

Rebecca Rusch's Wheel Girls mountain bike club for girls in grades 7-12 is back on track for the summer of 2012.

In partnership with her sponsors and the Blaine County Recreation District, Ketchum-based professional mountain biker Rusch is once again offering a six-week clinic for local girls in June and July.

Rusch is a three time Leadville Trail 100 Women's champion and three-time 24-Hour Solo Mountain Biking World Champion titlist.

She and other local female riders will teach basic mountain bike skills, bike maintenance, trail etiquette, nutrition and fitness principles.

The program is designed for girls who know how to ride a bike, who want to gain the skills and confidence to get out more often on their bikes.

"I am super excited to be hosting Wheel Girls for the second year. My hope is that this is the beginning of a lifetime of love for mountain biking for these girls," Rusch said in a June 1 press release.

Cost for six weeks is $125. Scholarships are available. Club rides will take place on Tuesdays from June 19-July 24 from 2-3:30 p.m.

All rides take place on Ketchum Ranger District trails. Girls will also be encouraged to participate as racers or volunteers in the USA Cycling National Championships (July 5-8) and to help with local trail work sessions.

Club size is limited to 20 riders for the 2012 season.
