Heads up, Blaine County residents

Developer David Hennessy and his group of anonymous financial backers submitted a flawed development plan for Quigley Canyon, from the perspective of Hailey citizens. In an effort to keep our quality of life in Blaine County and the city of Hailey's financials in order, the city turned the plan down.

This is not the place to go into how many ways the plan was flawed. Does anyone want to see the equivalent of a Sweetwater development at the mouth of Quigley Canyon next to the high school?

Now that his plan is rejected, he closes access to a very popular hike right on the edge of town. The closure is of no benefit to him. Is this the case of the rich kid on the block refusing to play and taking his basketball home because the other kids are outplaying him?

What the developer has failed to recognize is his land is still in Blaine County and he has now shown his true colors. So Blaine County should wake up to the Hennessy group's immature, juvenile, spiteful and shortsighted behavior toward us. They will still try to develop here.

Or, there is another way to look at this. During the negotiations leading up to this rejected plan, Hennessy said if we did not accept his plan he would shut down all recreation in the canyon (yes, cross-country skiing next winter). This is nothing other than a strong-arm blackmail tactic. Either way, it is all bad.

Watch out Blaine County, here they come!
