Nice spring weather greeted prep golfers Monday and Tuesday at the Idaho High School Activities Association’s state tournaments in eastern Idaho.

WoodRiverHigh School senior Jennie Williams earned a medal for finishing in the top 10 of 51 girls competing in the State 4A tournament at Blackfoot Golf Course. Williams carded scores of 90-84 for 174 to finish ninth overall behind individual medalist Kati Greear of Moscow (81-76 for 157).

Other WoodRiver scores for the 36-hole tournament were Alma Stosius 115-118 for 233, Hannah Haupt 134-115 for 249, Bella Stimac 134-126 for 260 and Sammy Sutton 134-133 for 267.

WoodRiver coach Chet Olson said, “The girls returned from the state tournament with great memories and stories to tell. Each competed well and had a great experience.

“Jennie Williams struggled with most of the other golfers at the tournament on the first day shooting a 90. She came back the second day and leveled off with several pars in a row on the back nine. She turned in a nice 84 for the day placing her at ninth place.”

“Alma was our next best golfer which was a nice way to end her senior year of golf.”

WoodRiver’s girls placed eighth in the team race with a combined score of 473-443 for 916 from its top four golfers. Bishop Kelly of Boise (684) won its first 4A girls’ title since 2008 and 10th overall by 13 strokes over Twin Falls (697).
