Employee housing and parking garages allowed

The Wood River Chapel mortuary at 403 N. Main St. in Hailey will soon get two more apartments and a three-bay parking garage for hearses and employees' cars.

On Monday, the Hailey Planning and Zoning Commission passed a design review application for the 4,000-square-foot, two-story addition. The mortuary, on the corner of Main and Silver streets, is based in the business district and in the Hailey Townsite Overlay District.

The addition will include a height increase of about 6 feet and a 2,000-square-foot expansion of the existing footprint.

Commissioner Jay Cone recused himself during deliberations regarding the addition because he had worked on architectural drawings associated with the project.

"This will be a great improvement to the corner of Silver and Main streets," Commissioner Geoffrey Moore said.

( The P&Z called for a safety and security plan from Knife River Corp. regarding its use of a city-owned lot east of the corner of Woodside and Countryside boulevards. The lot will be used to store heavy equipment during redevelopment of Woodside Boulevard this summer.
