Quigley project would devastate homeowners

I read with amazement the statement from the Quigley Canyon consultant about home values having decreased 30 percent in the valley, and the speed at which the inventory of existing homes and lots will sell off. My home in Deerfield has lost close to 50 percent of value in the past three years. The homeowners who invested in Hailey face a tough reality, knowing that many years will pass before property returns to anything approaching past value. Many people are trapped, unable to leave and unable to sell.

In the face of this, the city of Hailey actually is considering the Quigley development, which would further dilute existing home values.

The water argument for the city is highly questionable—at best—as water specialist Wendy Pabich pointed out. If the city is serious about preserving water, it should begin actively enforcing watering regulations for homes and businesses, and insist upon water smart use by the cemetery.

Insanity is sometimes defined as repeating behavior and expecting a different result. See: Cutters. If Quigley is approved, you can add the City Council and mayor to that definition.
