SV5B swimmers make waves in regional meet

Among 275 at Nampa


Nine members of coach Brian Gallagher's Sun Valley 5B Swim Team took high honors at the USA Swimming sanctioned age-group April Pools Invitational, held April 14-15 at the Nampa Recreation Center. Competing were 275 swimmers from Snake River Swimming region.

Four SV5B team members won the gold in 15 individual events.

Maddie Johnson, 13, led the pack winning eight individual races: 50 and 100 freestyle, 100/200 breaststroke, 200/400 Individual Medley, 100 backstroke and 200 butterfly.

Lena Friesen, 17, won four events taking 100 and 200 breaststroke, and 200 and 400 Individual Medley.

Gus Kimball, 17, won 50 and 100 freestyle. Returning SV5B member Loni Unser, 14, won 200 backstroke.

Gallagher's swimmers continued their enviable tradition of clocking personal-best results in most races.

Competing in eight events, Gus Kimball swam best times in 100 free, 100 back and 200 IM; 12-year-old Mason Johnson competed in eight events with best times in five—100/200 free, 50/100 back and 100 IM; and Maddie Johnson competing in eight events swam best times in 100/200 breast, 50 free and 200 IM.

Ashley Dreyfus, 14, competing in eight events had personal-best times in 100 fly, 50 free and 200 IM; Loni Unser competing in eight events had best times in 200 breast, 50 free, 200 IM and 100 back; Mia Smith, 15, competing in six events swam best times in 50 and 100 free;

Easton Kimball, 15, competing in six events clocked PR times in 50/100 free, 100 breast and 100 back; Addie Gage, 15, competing in seven events swam PR times in 200 free and 100 back; and Lena Friesen swam six events with a PR in the 100 breast.

The SV5B team takes it back on the road May 18-20 when it competes in the Spring Fling Invitational at West Boise Y.
