Free screening of water documentary

The public is invited to a free screening of the film "Flow," presented by the Environmental Resource Center and Wood River High School's W.A.T.E.R. group.

The award-winning documentary about the political and environmental implications of water access and use in the 21st century investigates the growing privatization of the world's dwindling fresh water supply with a focus on politics, pollution and human rights.

The New York Times called it "an astonishingly wide-ranging film. An informed and heartfelt examination of the tug of war between public health and private interest."

The film will be shown Tuesday, May 1, from 5-7 p.m. at the Hailey Public Library.

Quigley hearing dates amended

Public hearings on April 30, May 7 and May 21, all Mondays, will allow for the public to review and comment on fiscal impact information, water rights and other issues associated with a proposed 444-unit development in Quigley Canyon.

The final fiscal-impact report will be posted no later than today, April 27, on the city of Hailey's website, Mayor Fritz Haemmerle reported Thursday.

Quigley representatives will present comments on April 30 at Hailey council chambers regarding the fiscal analysis, water appraisal and related matters. Any members of the public prepared to speak on those matters will be invited to do so.

On May 7, further public comment on fiscal and water rights issues will be taken by the City Council at the Wood River High School Distance Learning Center.

On May 21 another public meeting at the Wood River High School Distance Learning Center will be held to gather general public comments regarding Quigley Canyon.

Group to discuss teen shelter

A task force planning to build a homeless shelter for teenagers in the Wood River Valley will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, in Room 211 of the Community Campus in Hailey. Anyone interested in assisting with the project is welcome to attend.

The group is seeking volunteers to sit on a board of directors. Once the board is seated, the group will seek funding and status as a nonprofit organization.

D.L. Evans Bank announces new appointment

Dick Coleman has been appointed vice president and senior mortgage loan officer at the Ketchum branch of D.L. Evans Bank.

Coleman has been in banking for 30 years. He has also served as assistant girls softball coach at Wood River High School, as treasurer on the board of directors for the Building Contractors Association of the Wood River Valley and as a board member of the Wood River Baseball/Softball Association.
